Underwriters

Hayley Johnston joined Lancashire in September 2007 as a member of the underwriting team. In May 2014 Hayley was appointed Chief Underwriting Officer for Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) Limited, in addition to her Outwards Reinsurance Manager role. Previously she was responsible for the underwriting of the Marine and Aviation accounts and from May 2011 acted as the Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer for Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) Limited. Hayley previously worked for Axis Specialty Europe where she was the Underwriting Manager and Outwards Reinsurance Manager for their European headquarters based in Dublin, Ireland. Hayley became CEO of Lancashire Insurance Company Limited in 2020.

James Irvine joined Lancashire in April 2010 as a member of the underwriting team in London and transferred to the Bermuda office in 2011. He is a part of the Bermuda underwriting team with special responsibilities for the property reinsurance portfolio. Previously James worked for Guy Carpenter Reinsurance Brokers as a North American specialist.

James Flude joined Lancashire in January 2014 as Head of Energy and Marine underwriting having worked at the Watkins Syndicate for over 14 years, most recently as Energy Underwriter and Account Manager. Whilst at Watkins he spent 5 years working as the Energy Underwriter in Singapore as part of the Lloyd’s Asia platform where he had responsibility for the upstream energy portfolio in Asia. James became Chief Underwriting Officer in 2020 and Group Chief Underwriting Officer: Insurance in 2022.

Nick Thompson joined Lancashire in 2020 as Group Head of Non-Marine Reinsurance Strategy. Previously, Nick worked as a broker for 12 years, at Aon Benfield and more recently Willis Re, specialising in Property Reinsurance and Retrocession. Nick moved to Bermuda and became LICL Chief Underwriting Officer in April 2023.

Jon originally joined Lancashire Syndicates in December 2016 to manage the non-marine treaty account for Syndicate 2010. He has over 25 years underwriting experience most recently with Argenta Syndicate 2121 where he was deputy active underwriter. Jon stepped up to the role of Active Underwriter of Syndicate 2010 in March 2017. In 2022, Jon was appointed Chief Underwriting Officer, Lancashire Syndicates Limited.

Adam joined Lancashire in November 2017 as an Underwriter for Downstream Energy risks. Prior to this Adam worked at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty for over 7 years underwriting a similar class of business. He started his career as a broker in the Marsh Marine & Energy Division and also worked at Benfield & Aon. He has a BSc and MSc qualifications.

Andrew joined Lancashire in April 2014 as a catastrophe modeller based in the London office. He transferred to Bermuda in 2017 and was appointed Underwriter in 2023 within the Property Reinsurance and Retrocession team. Andrew graduated from The University of Newcastle in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Geography.

Annabel joined Lancashire in September 2021 and is a Senior Underwriter in the Marine team. Annabel joined the market in 2009 on the Talbot graduate scheme and then moved into the Marine Hull & War team. She also spent 2 years at Talbot as a Cyber Underwriter and helped open their Australia office. She is ACII and MICS qualified.

Bernadette Pereira joined Lancashire in April 2006 and is an Underwriter within the Energy team. Berni has previously worked at Tryg-Baltica where she was an underwriting assistant and Aon as an Account Executive.

Bethan joined Lancashire in November 2020 as a Delegated Authorities Underwriting Assistant after graduating from Oxford Brookes University with a BA (Hons) in Business and Management.

Charlie Betts joined Lancashire in October 2012 and is Head of Political Violence in the Terrorism and Political Risks team. Charlie previously worked at Hardy Underwriting as an Underwriting Assistant having graduated with a BA (hons) in Modern Languages and European Studies from the University of Bath.

Craig MacKenzie joined Lancashire in March 2007 as a member of the underwriting team and is an Underwriter for the Energy account. Craig has previously worked at Houston Casualty Company where he was an Underwriting Assistant.

David Beaumont joined Lancashire in July 2015 and is Head of Terrorism in the Terrorism and Political Risks team. David previously worked at Talbot Validus Group for 8 years working predominantly in the Political Violence and Aviation War teams.

Dawn Priest joined Lancashire in December 2007 and is an Underwriter within the Energy Underwriting Team. Dawn previously worked at Aon Ltd for 10 years and during this time worked within the Energy/International Casualty Team.

Dom joined Lancashire in 2020 as part of the underwriting team for Lancashire Insurance Company Limited. Prior to Lancashire, Dom worked at Hamilton Insurance Group as part of the Casualty Reinsurance team. Dom graduated magna cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a BSc in Economics and holds the CPCU and ARe designations.

Edward joined Lancashire in April 2013 and is a Senior Underwriter in the War, Terrorism and Political Risk team. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 with a BA (Hons) degree in Economics and Sociology.

Emma Grimes joined Lancashire in August 2009 having previously worked for Mondial Assistance and AIG UK. Emma is currently a Senior Underwriter working on the Terrorism and Political Violence account, and Specialty Reinsurance Manager.

Jaime joined Lancashire in September 2014, initially as part of our Graduate Development Programme, and is a Senior Underwriter within the Energy and Marine team. Prior to joining, she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Management at the University of Exeter and a Masters in Insurance and Risk Management at Cass Business School.

James joined the Lancashire Group in July 2018 as an Underwriter. He has over 15 years' experience having started his career at Guy Carpenter before moving on to senior broking positions at both BMS and Willis Towers Watson. Based in Bermuda, his responsibilities will include underwriting the Treaty account with a focus on North American business, as well as business production.

Jessica joined Lancashire as an Underwriter in the Terrorism, War & Political Risks team in October 2021. Jessica started her insurance career at Coface before moving to Ascot Syndicate, where she spent five years as an Underwriter for Political Risks. Jessica has experience in both the London and Singapore markets. She graduated from Edinburgh University in 2013 with an MA (Hons) degree in Politics and Philosophy and spent a year studying International Security at Korea University in South Korea.

Joshua joined Lancashire in April 2021 and is an Underwriting Assistant in the Terrorism, War & Political Risks team. Joshua graduated from Middlesex University in 2020 with a BA (Hons) degree in Economics.

Justin joined Lancashire in December 2021 as a Senior Mortgage & Casualty Underwriter. Prior to that, he held the role of Chief Pricing Actuary at JRG Re, Bermuda from 2018 to 2021 and Vice President - Casualty & Specialty at Hamilton Re, Bermuda from 2013 to 2018. Justin started his career as an actuary in 2006 and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Actuarial Science from Binghamton University with a concentration in Finance.

Kevin Hanington joined Lancashire in February 2016 as an underwriter with a focus on the Energy Liability account. Kevin began his career as a cargo broker in 1984 and moved to the placing side in 1986 specialising in marine and energy liability. Kevin left Willis to join GE Frankona as marine and energy liability underwriter in 2000 before returning to the broking community with Agnew Higgins Pickering and Company. Kevin spent 7 years at Price Forbes and Partners helping to develop the energy practice and in 2011 joined Catlin as marine and energy liability underwriter.

Liam joined Lancashire in 2021 as Head of Casualty. Prior to that he held the role of SVP, Casualty & Specialty at Hamilton Re, Bermuda. Liam started his career in London at Brit Insurance, underwriting casualty, professional and various specialty lines. Liam holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from University College London and is qualified under the Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).

Mathew joined Lancashire in April 2016 as an Underwriting Assistant based in the Bermuda office. Before returning to Bermuda, Mathew worked as a broker and underwriter specialising in vehicle finance in the UK.

Minnie joined Lancashire in September 2016 and is an Underwriter on the War, Terrorism and Political Risk team, after completing a degree in Human Geography at the University of Leeds.

Ray joined Lancashire in November 2014 and is an Underwriter in the Energy and Marine team. Ray holds a Masters in Insurance and Risk Management from Cass Business School and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of York. Prior to joining Lancashire, Ray worked as an Exposure Management Analyst at Lancashire Syndicates and is ACII qualified.

Riley joined Lancashire in 2017 as a member of the underwriting team for Lancashire Insurance Company Limited. Riley completed her Bachelor's degree in Management and International Business at Loyola University Maryland. Prior to joining, Riley worked at Axis Capital where she assisted the Capital Risk Solutions team.

Simon Thurgood joined Lancashire in August 2006 and is Group Head of War, Terrorism and Political Risks. Simon has extensive experience and was previously employed at Willis Limited for 6 years as Divisional Director in their terrorism department. Prior to this Simon worked in the Caribbean for CGM as a property and casualty broker.

Stella joined Lancashire in June 2021 to start the Marine Liability book, and is responsible for its underwriting. She has over twenty years' underwriting experience, predominantly at AEGIS London, and prior to that began her insurance career at Sedgwick on the Graduate Training Scheme. She is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a longstanding Member of the Joint Liability Committee.

Tom joined the Lancashire Group in September 2016 as an Underwriter specialising in Property Reinsurance and Retrocession. He has 10 years of experience in underwriting and broking in the London market. Tom has a degree in Mathematics from Imperial College London and holds the ACII and CCRA designations.

Tyler joined Lancashire in November 2018 as an Assistant Underwriter working within the Energy and Marine team where he focuses on both the Company market and Lloyd's accounts. Tyler joined the Company from Axis Capital where he previously worked as an insurance technician within the Marine team.

John was appointed Chief Executive Officer, Lancashire Syndicates Limited, in June 2022. He was previously the Active Underwriter for Syndicate 3010 having joined Lancashire Syndicates in 2014. He was also previously Aviation underwriter for Atrium Syndicate 609 for 10 years and prior to that spent 21 years at Hardy Syndicate 382.

Matthew joined Lancashire as a D&F Underwriter in 2016. Matthew has over 20 years' experience as a broker and as an underwriter in the Lloyd's and London markets. Prior to joining Lancashire, Matthew was employed as a Class Underwriter at XL Catlin in London, underwriting both US and International exposures. Matthew became the Deputy Active Underwriter for 2010 in 2021 and Active Underwriter in 2022. He was appointed Group Head of Property Insurance in October 2023.

Matt joined Syndicate 3010 in 2014 and became Head of Aviation War in January 2018 and Deputy Active Underwriter in April 2020. He was appointed Active Underwriter in June 2022. He worked at Atrium Syndicate 609 from 2001 where he was an Aviation War underwriter.

Adrian joined Lancashire Syndicates in January 2017 to underwrite non-marine treaty business for Syndicate 2010, specialising in property. He has over 25 years underwriting experience most recently with QBE Syndicate 566.

Alex joined Lancashire Syndicates in September 2019 on the Graduate Scheme. In September 2021 he became an Underwriting Assistant in the Non-Marine Treaty team, Syndicate 2010. Prior to joining, Alex graduated from Clemson University in 2019 with a BSc in Financial Management.

Alex joined Lancashire Syndicate 3010 in 2018 to start the Power and Utilities book. Prior to that he spent five years as a Power underwriter with Argenta Syndicate 2121. Alex started his insurance career in 2004 as a broker with Price Forbes & Partners and subsequently JLT Agnew Higgins, JLT and Lloyd & Partners before making the transition to underwriting in 2013.

Angus joined joined Lancashire Group in October 2022 as Head of Airlines, having worked in the Lloyd’s and London markets for over 40 years of which 35 have been in the War and Aviation sectors.

Ann joined Lancashire Syndicates in June 2012 as an Underwriting Assistant within the D&F team. Ann previously worked for Cunningham Lindsey Loss Adjusters as an administration assistant and prior to this spent 10 years working for Lloyds Banking Group.

Ben joined Lancashire Syndicates in July 2016 working within the Delegated Underwriting team. He became an Assistant Underwriter for the Non-Marine treaty team, Syndicate 2010, in 2021, and became an Underwriter in 2023.

Colette joined Lancashire in January 2020 to underwrite US and International property business for Syndicate 2010. She has over 13 years’ market experience, beginning her career as a catastrophe modeller after completing a Masters in Geophysical Hazards from UCL. Prior to joining Lancashire, Colette held the position of Senior Underwriter within the D&F team at Brit Insurance.

David joined Lancashire 2010 as an Aviation Reinsurance Underwriter in July 2021. Prior to joining Lancashire, David spent nearly 8 years at MS Amlin, originally starting within Outwards Reinsurance Claims and subsequently joining the Aviation Reinsurance Underwriting team in 2015. His most recent position at MS Amlin was an Aviation Reinsurance Underwriter which he held since December 2017. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Elle joined Lancashire Syndicates in September 2021, from The Hertfordshire and Essex High School, as an Administrative Assistant for the Non -Marine Treaty team.

Freya joined Lancashire Syndicates in January 2021 as an Administrative Assistant for the Aviation team. She graduated from the University of Exeter in 2020 with a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences.

Gary joined Lancashire Syndicate 3010 in 2018 to set up the Aviation Hull Deductible book whilst also becoming Head of Airline. Prior to that he spent the past 13 years as Aspen Insurance UK Ltd where he was Head of Aviation. Gary started his career in 1999 with Aon before moving to XLLM as Aviation Claims Adjuster before moving to Aspen in 2005 to start up the Aviation account as an underwriter before quickly progressing to Senior Underwriter, Deputy Head and then finally Head of Aviation.

Harry joined Lancashire Syndicates in December 2014 working within the IT team. In 2023, he became an Assistant Underwriter for the non-marine treaty team, Syndicate 2010.

Jimmy joined Syndicate 3010 as an Aviation Underwriter in July 2020. Prior to joining, Jimmy spent over 10 years at Atrium Syndicate 609 originally starting within Claims and subsequently joining the Aviation Underwriting team in 2014.

James joined Lancashire in July 2021 with over with over 30 years' London Market experience in Cargo, Fine Art & Specie, Logging and Trucking business. Recent experience ranges from working in a small MGA to a Senior Underwriter role within a number of Lloyd’s Syndicates, most recently Ark where he spent six years building a cargo and fine art book from scratch.

James joined Lancashire Syndicates in November 2017 working within the Delegated Underwriting Team. In 2018, he joined the Syndicate Operations teams before joining the Non-Marine treaty team as an Underwriting Assistant in November 2019. James graduated from Swansea University with a BSc degree in Economics.

Jamie joined Lancashire Syndicates in June 2021 as Senior Underwriter of Property D&F Australia. He has over 10 years underwriting experience most recently with Argenta Syndicate 2121 where he was the Deputy Underwriting Director for the Australian office.

Jeremy joined Lancashire Syndicates in December 2021 as an Underwriter of Property D&F Australia. He has over 14 years underwriting experience most recently with Honan Insurance Group as Portfolio Underwriter.

Josef joined Lancashire Syndicates in September 2018 as an Administrative Assistant working within the Direct Aviation team and became an Assistant Underwriter in 2023.

Kerry joined Lancashire Syndicates in May 2017 as an Assistant Underwriter for the non-marine treaty team, Syndicate 2010. Prior to joining Lancashire, Kerry worked at Novae Syndicates for over 16 years. Her experience includes working as an Assistant Underwriter in the aviation reinsurance team and as a Technical Trainer and Consultant within the central underwriting support team.

Matt joined Lancashire in October 2018 as an Aviation Underwriter specialising in a new product line, Hull Deductible. From 2009 he worked for Aspen within the Financial team before moving internally to the Aviation in 2010 as an Underwriting Assistant. He was promoted to an Assistant Underwriter in 2013, then Underwriter in 2016 with authority across all lines of Aviation business.

Michael joined Lancashire in December 2012 initially as a member of the IT team. In 2014, he joined the Aviation all risks and Aviation war team as an Underwriting Assistant and was promoted to Assistant Underwriter in 2019 and Underwriter in 2022.

Nicola joined Lancashire in October 2000 as an Underwriting Assistant working with the Aviation Reinsurance and Satellite team. She started her career in 1993 working for Bankside/Limit Syndicate 566 as an Underwriting Assistant.

Peter joined the Market in 2003 working as an Aviation broker. He moved to Atrium Syndicate 609 as an Aviation Assistant underwriter in 2008 and to Lancashire Syndicate 3010 as an Aviation underwriter in 2014.

Richard joined the Market in 1993, and began to specialise in Cargo and Specie when he joined Syndicate 79 in 1995. Prior to joining Lancashire Syndicate 3010, he was at McGill and Partners which he joined after 10 years as the Cargo Underwriting Manager at Liberty. Richard has been Deputy Chair of the Joint Cargo Committee and on the Cargo Committee for LIIBA.

Rhys joined Lancashire Syndicates in September 2018 as a Data Entry Administrative Assistant for the Direct and Facultative Property team.

Sean joined Lancashire in January 2017 to underwrite binding authority and open market business for Syndicate 2010. Sean has been in the Lloyd's market for 12 years, previously working on the broking side at BMS. This also included a 2 year secondment to Canada.

Tim joined Lancashire Syndicates in April 2022 as Head of Property D&F Australia. He has over 35 years underwriting experience most recently with Argenta Syndicate 2121 where he was the Underwriting Director for the Australian office.

Tom joined Lancashire Syndicate 3010 in 2020 to help grow the Power and Utilities book, which was started by Alex Priestley and Becky Stephenson in 2018. Tom began his insurance career in 2014 with Lloyd & Partners, which subsequently merged into JLT Specialty. Having worked mainly on Latin American property and terrorism business in his first year, Tom moved to work exclusively on power for the next four years, until he joined the Power and Utilities team as an underwriter in March 2020.

Tom joined Lancashire in 2020 to set up the Accident & Health account, having been in the London market for the past 16 years or so. Most of his time has been spent on A&H although he has also worked on North American Property and Reinsurance. Tom is ACII qualified and hold degrees from the Universities of York and Oxford.

Tom joined Lancashire in 2016 to underwrite non marine treaty business for Syndicate 2010 specialising in property. Prior to this he was a broker at Guy Carpenter in the treaty team, having started his career at RK Harrison Insurance Brokers in 2005. He has a degree in Geography from the University of Edinburgh.

Tim joined Lancashire Syndicates in April 2022 as Head of Property D&F Australia. He has over 35 years underwriting experience most recently with Argenta Syndicate 2121 where he was the Underwriting Director for the Australian office.

Jamie joined Lancashire Syndicates in June 2021 as Senior Underwriter of Property D&F Australia. He has over 10 years underwriting experience most recently with Argenta Syndicate 2121 where he was the Deputy Underwriting Director for the Australian office.

Jeremy joined Lancashire Syndicates in December 2021 as an Underwriter of Property D&F Australia. He has over 14 years underwriting experience most recently with Honan Insurance Group as Portfolio Underwriter.

Paul Gregory has led the underwriting operations of the Lancashire Group since May 2014 as Group Chief Underwriting Officer. Paul joined Lancashire in 2007 as part of the team responsible for underwriting the energy portfolio. In January 2009, he was appointed Chief Underwriting Officer of Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) Ltd and was responsible for all business underwritten from the platform. Paul also served as Chief Executive Officer of Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) Ltd between 2014 and 2019. Paul has been a member of the Lancashire Holdings board’s Underwriting and Underwriting Risk Committee since 2010 and has served as Chief Executive Officer of Lancashire Capital Management (LCM) since 2021. Prior to working at Lancashire, Paul was an energy underwriter at AIG and he started his career at Marsh as an Account Executive in the Energy team as part of the Marsh graduate scheme.

Charlotte has over 14 years of financial services experience and joined LCM in July 2021 to assist Lancashire’s third-party capital platform and oversee its related finance operations in Bermuda. She spent the previous three years with Pillar Capital Management Limited, an investment manager dedicated to investing in insurance related instruments, where she led their finance team responsible for three funds and a (re)insurance vehicle. Her duties included inwards and outwards reinsurance contract review, claims and loss reserves review and processing including being a member of the fund valuation committee and transaction verification across all system records. Her underwriting facility management responsibilities included building and maintaining risk deployment and collateral management models, internal and external facility forecasting and reporting, relationship management with fronting partners and managing internal vehicles with the BMA. Prior to that, she served as Chief Accounting Officer of Armour Group Holdings Limited, and before that as a Senior Manager at PwC Bermuda. She also holds a BSc in Geography from the University of Sheffield and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA).
